This imposing building dates from the late Renaissance period and features rich stuccowork and frescoes from the 15th and 16th century. A church in the Romanesque style was first mentioned in documents in 1425. In the second half of the 16th century, the church was completely rebuilt. According to the date on the portal, this work was completed in 1578. In the early 19th century, the interior of the church was partly restored, followed by more necessary restoration work in 1976/1977. The impressive three-nave basilica is located to the east of the town on a picturesque square where we also find the Loggia del Commune, the parochial house and the sacristy.
The interior features a modern statue of the Virgin Mary. Along the side walls, we find depictions in stucco of Saint Sebastian, Saint Rocco, John the Baptist and Saint Lucia. The altar has a valuable marble frontal thought to be made in the first half of the 18th century. A Renaissance crucifix of great artistic value hangs above the altar in the second south bay. The south wall is covered by a large painting of the Last Supper. The work probably dates from the late 16th century and appears to be inspired by the masterpiece of Leonardo da Vinci. The bay to the north houses the Renaissance baptismal font on a base decorated with early 16th century bas-reliefs. In the niche stands a marvellous sculpture depicting the baptism of Christ from the second half of the 17th century.
